In the hands of team boss Gurney, the Eagle-Weslake won the 1967 Belgian Grand Prix, making Dan Gurney only the second driver at the time, and one of only three to date, to win a Formula One Grand Prix in a car of their own construction.
The front row of the 1967 Indianapolis 500 featured Mario Andretti on the pole, with Dan Gurney in the middle and Gordon Johncock on the outside. Back in sixth position was an oddball entry from the Granatelli STP team, powered by a turbine engine and driven by Parnelli Jones. No one gave the turbine car serious consideration in the lead up to the race, but when the green flag dropped, Mario Andretti didn't hold the lead past the second corner of the first lap. Even with just a single lap in the record books, Jones had opened up a sizable lead on the field, but Gurney was among the most competitive of the piston-powered entries.
